ETA: Eicosatetraenoic Acid & SDA: Stearidonic Acid Omega-3 fatty acids are now well-known inflammation fighters. Controlled clinical trials clearly show that they fight inflammation, reducing and in some cases eliminating the need for anti-inflammatory drugs with their disturbing short- and long-term side effects. Both omega-3 fatty acids, and nearly all anti- inflammatory drugs, work through their effects on a group of local, cellular "hormones" called eicosanoids. Eicosanoids are messengers that cells use to communicate with one another, coordinating their activities. Some ("bad") eicosanoids promote inflammation, while other ("good") eicosanoids have potentanti-inflammatory functions. Thus, the body's inflammatory response rests inlarge part on the balance of "good" and "bad" eicosanoids produced by your cells when they hear the immune system's inflammatory call. "Bad" eicosanoids are made from an omega-6 fatty acid called arachidonic acid. Most drug approaches to inflammation, from aspirin and the older NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, like ibuprofen) to the new "COX-2 inhibitor"drugs, like celecoxib [Celebrex®] and rofecoxib [Vioxx®]), work by inhibiting the formation of the series-2 prostanoid group of "bad" eicosanoids. Prostanoids are formed from arachidonic acid by an enzyme called cyclooxygenase, or COX. (AA). But while these drugs certainly provide symptomatic relief in the short term, COX-2 inhibitors can actually accelerate the underlying inflammatory disease in the long term, by diverting arachidonic acid into another, slower-acting, and ultimately more destructive pathway: the lipoxygenase (LOX) enzyme pathway, which produces the ravaging series-4 leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are the eicosanoids released by immune cells involved in the body's inflammatory responses, and are more responsible for the long-term consequences of inflammation, which can result when a deranged immune system attacks the very body that it was designed to defend. Therefore, blocking the COX pathway alone results in an imbalance - an imbalance that ultimately trades short-term gain for long-term pain. What people suffering with auto-immune disorders most need is a "dual pathway inhibitor:" a molecule which will shut down COX-2 and LOX alike, preventing the formation of all "bad" eicosanoids. Transnational pharmaceutical giants are racing to create such drugs. But Nature is already waiting for them at the finish line, with two rare omega-3 fatty acids. Introducing ETA and SDA Eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA) and its precursor stearidonic acid (SDA), are omega-3 fatty acids you probably haven't heard much about. Because ETA and SDA are so rare in food sources, there's been little study of their role in the effects of diet on chronic disease (unlike eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA),which are commonly found in fatty fish and in regular fish-oil supplements). While ETA is very rare in the normal Western diet, it is found in significant amounts in the fatty acids of the green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus). Many early studies in humans and animals found that crude extracts of Perna were effective in reducing inflammation, and in relieving the symptoms of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis - but other studies found no effect. The reason, as later studies confirmed, was that the anti-inflammatory properties of the green-lipped mussel were due to their content of SDA and ETA. Most green-lipped mussel supplements are not stable fatty acid extracts, but are crude concentrates or are based onmucopolysaccharides. When seven commercially-available green mussel products were put to the test by comparing them with a stable fatty extract rich in ETA and SDA, the fatty acid extract revealed strong anti-inflammatory powers, while the other extracts were found to vary wildly in strength. Great variations were even revealed in different batches of the same product. More tellingly, when the inflammation-fighting powers of a stable ETA- and SDA-rich extract were compared with crude P. canaliculus extracts whose fatty acid content had been deliberately removed, the fatty acid extract of the mussel exhibited potentanti-inflammatoryeffects, while the ETA-depleted preparation was found to be completely ineffective. ETA and SDA Top the Omega- 3’s Two direct comparison studies have been performed in animals to compare the anti-inflammatory effects of the ETA- and SDA-rich oil of P. canaliculus against those of salmon, cod liver, flaxseed, and two mixed fish oils. These studies clearly show that the ETA- and SDA-rich fatty acid extract of P. canaliculus is far superior to other omega-3 sources at quenching the fires of inflammation, giving more potentanti-inflammatory benefits at significantly lower doses. Using the series of tests discussed above, ETA/SDA supplementation lowered arthritis scores by 4213% to 7515%, versus 0 to 31% using conventional omega-3 sources. Likewise, rear pawswelling was reduced by 96-98% by the ETA/SDA-rich oil, while swelling was only lowered by 7 to 38% with common omega-3s! These results are all the more remarkable because the dose of ETA/SDA-rich P. canaliculus oil was only about 1% of that used for the standard omega-3 oils. Another recent study tested the effects of these novel fatty acids in a rat model of arthritis. After 15 days of administering omega-3 fatty acid extracts from P. canaliculus, rear pawswelling was significantly reduced by 34% and fore paw inflammation by 60%. Deterioration in total body condition was reduced by 52% compared to controls. The extract also decreased inflammatory response in the spleen, and it had a 35-70% inhibition of leukotriene metabolites. Serum levels of the inflammatory biomarker ceruloplasmin were reduced compared to control mice, indicating a less severe disease state. Interestingly, the fatty acids had comparable potency to the known anti-inflammatory agent piroxicam. The fatty acid extract had no adverse side effects. These results suggest a potential benefit not only in rheumatoid arthritis, but also in other inflammatory diseases such aspsoriasis, asthma and cardiovascular disease. A New Human Trial In a new randomized,double-blind, controlled trial involving rheumatoid and osteoarthritis sufferers, significant improvements were reported in morning stiffness and measures of joint functionality during the double-blinded phase among rheumatoid arthritis sufferers taking the SDA/ETA-rich oil; further, night pain was "much improved" in 40% of subjects, and vanished in an additional 26.7%. Improvements were also seen in some patients' grip strength and overall visual-scale pain scores, but these results were not found statistically meaningful. Assessment by doctors and patients concluded that 73% of the persons with rheumatoid arthritis had experienced a good response - including 20% who became completely symptom-free by the end of the double-blind phase. The results were similar in the osteoarthritis victims. Similar results have been reported in an unpublished pilot trial and incase reports. A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial vouches for the benefits of an SDA- and ETA-rich fatty acid supplement in bronchial asthma, and testimonial accounts and animal studies suggest benefits in premenstrual syndrome as well. HowDoes It Work? Why does the SDA- and ETA-rich oil of Perna canaliculus so remarkably out-perform other omega-3s ? The anti-inflammatory powers of all omega-3 fatty acids are grounded in biochemistry: the omega-3s' ability to bind up key enzymes involved in making "bad" eicosanoids. And as studies show, ETA, and SDA working through it, more potently prevent the formation of both types of "bad" eicosanoids: series-2 prostanoids and series-4 leukotrienes. Mechanisms are believed to include a stronger ability to tie updelta-5 desaturase, the enzyme that forms arachidonic acid, indirectly increasing the production of the “good” eicosanoids from DGLA, ETA’s close chemical resemblance to arachidonic acid, leading to stronger tying up of the LOX enzyme. In addition to these advantages, SDA and ETA share anti-inflammatory mechanisms that are common to all omega-3 fatty acids. Thus, ETA and SDA are natural COX-2 inhibitors. Remarkably, omega-3s accomplish this feat not only because their natural metabolites bind up COX-2, but also by actually working at the gene level to reduce the production of COX-2 from the DNA code, and SDA/ETA block the formation of inflammatory cytokines (immune system messenger chemicals) such as tumornecrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1 (IL-1). Revolutionary new painkillers - such as etanercept (Enbrel®) are so effective because they target TNF-alpha. ETA/SDA-based omega-3 supplements are an orthomolecular revolution, providing powerful support against inflammation in ways that other natural supplements can't match. The biochemistry explains the results seen in animal studies and clinical trials. But only you can experience them ... for yourself. From Iris Parizek and Dieter Harsch, PWA Germany Correspondents : Posted on 09 November 2012 20:45
Dear Pet Lovers . It’s quite possible that, because we joined the Pet Welfare Alliance, we can preserve the health of a rescue dog traveling from Bulgaria to Germany. Despite a valid vaccination certificate, and against the known law in Germany, a government vet has tried to force a pet owner to re-vaccinate their dog too soon after the previous shot. . Due to our advice, the pet owner asked for proof of the existence of the rabies virus, which requires a special procedure. Without this proof, the vet cannot enforce her order. . Our organisation, called Gesundheit und Impffreiheit (Health and Vaccine Free) demanded this proof, asserting that there is a worldwide movement asking for it. To emphasise the worldwide groundswell of public opinion and knowledge, we added the following to our letterhead: . In cooperation with Pet Welfare Alliance a worldwide group of pet owners, vets, healthcare practitioners, trainers, behaviourists with correspondents in : . Europe . Asia . Africa . America . Australia . The government vet now knows that this one pet owner she tried to overpower is not alone! Knowing that she is supported by many others, this puts much pressure on the vet. We await the government vet’s reaction. We can only advise everyone to point to their membership of Pet Welfare Alliance, and use it to add strength to their own work. . Finally we thank God for Catherine forming this strong and important organisation! .

On September 17, 2012 my husband and I put to his final rest our fifteen month old Great Dane puppy, Meshach. He died as a result of over-vaccination even though he was never vaccinated. Minimal vaccines are not the problem. ANY vaccine is the problem. Until a lot more pet owners have taken the red pill and woken up out of the Matrix of lies woven about vaccines in general, I will continue to state the simple and obvious to anyone willing to listen and learn; one vaccine is over-vaccination. . Until I can get the attention of pet people to stop thinking that there is such a thing as safe and minimal vaccines, until people learn that vaccines are not okay and protective, then I absolutely cannot stop sharing what I know to be true. I have done my research from information readily available to anyone choosing to access it. . Until more pet people are aware that unnatural foods in the form of GMO-laden commercial processed junk, fed their beloved pets as food from a bag or can; that pesticides slathered on pets under the guise of pest control prevention is nothing more than poison; that injections under the guise of health care delivery are merely a form of disease vectoring; and that ALL of it collectively causes grave harm and suffering while the cartel (veterinary profession, pharmaceutical companies, pet food industry, et al) literally makes a killing in both lives and income, then I will not stop. . Vaccines are NOT immunizations. They are NOT protective. They ARE neurotoxins which vector disease. Here is a quote by the www.ChalkboardCampaign.com about neurotoxins: . “Neurotoxins cause brain damage in EVERYONE. The extent is the only variable.” . You never know the extent of the damage or how that damage will present in your pet. It’s not a matter of if it will present, it is always only a matter of when and to what extent it will present. With my Meshach, the extent was great and fatal. He had all the symptoms of rabies vaccinosis except aggression, even though he had never been vaccinated but his ancestry had all been vaccinated, repeatedly. As the veterinarian who euthanized him stated, “He is very healthy in every respect except for the seizures.” It took twenty minutes for him to die. The veterinarian said he had never seen such a strong, healthy Great Dane before and that is why it was taking so long. . He was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest dog I ever had the pleasure to share my life with. He did not deserve to have to suffer or die as he did, and so young. And he did it all with such grace. . The veterinarians I took Meshach to considered seizures a common and normal occurrence but neither of them connected the dots to vaccines. In fact, the contrary, they thought it was my fault since I had not vaccinated him. As my friend Aleksandra says, they are only taught to memorize the dots not how to connect them. . First of all there is nothing normal about seizures – idiopathic or any other kind. Neither veterinarian did an examination on Meshach, although I was charged for an examination each time. Neither one of them wanted to do more than to prescribe drugs and possibly for us to see a neurosurgeon who they did not think would do any good anyway, and then ultimately euthanasia. That is what they offered. Conventional medicine never has the solutions except for emergency care as far as I am concerned. I am beginning to even question that, though, as I thought this situation was an emergency since Meshach’s episodes had greatly escalated. However, their solutions were no solutions at all - and one veterinarian said as much to us. . In a nutshell, the only treatment conventional medicine can offer is toxins in the form of drugs and increasing them until your pet is no longer themselves but a zombie with liver disease. Then spend a lot of money seeing a specialist that really can’t do anything either. Then at last, the only choice is death by lethal injection. All of it costs you heartache, money, stress, immense grief and your pet immense suffering. . The suffering begins with an injection and ends with an injection. One vaccine per any generation nowadays is over-vaccination. That is how much damage we have done to our beloved pets through the use of vaccines. . I am glad we managed Meshach primarily with natural alternatives so he could live out his days with some quality of life. . As I said previously, Meshach was not vaccinated. He may have lived maybe one day if he had been vaccinated due to the vaccine damage lurking in his body. He suffered from inherited vaccinosis. Yes, I said INHERITED. But you will never hear a conventional veterinarian tell you that or even admit that it is a possibility. . If we continue to think that over-vaccination is merely too many vaccines administered to our pets rather than one vaccine in their lifetime administered being one too many, then one day we won’t have to worry over this as there will be no more pets to consider. . “The only safe vaccine is one that is never used. No vaccine can be proven safe before it is given to children“. ~Statements by the late James A. Shannon, while serving as Director of the US National Institutes of Health. . And not to animals either I might add! . I will close today with a quote by friend, author, and fellow natural animal health professional, Aleksandra Mikic from her book, Immune Doggy, which I highly recommend: . “By vaccinating every individual animal and not allowing it to develop its own immunity, we are effectively preventing the passing of the immunity to the future generations. A vaccine is always made from the most virulent form of the virus since pharmaceutical companies jump on the wagon as soon as the disease appears and the level of fear is at its highest. While in nature this virus would have mutated into a less virulent form, it does not do so in the vaccine. Generations of animals are therefore injected with the worst form of the virus and stripped of their natural immune response which would have been passed onto subsequent generations. What is passed forward instead is deformed DNA, and the destruction of the species must ensue. Vaccinated mothers do not pass on herd immunity, which then puts pups in greater danger of contracting disease while they are very young. By attempting to save the individual animal, we are effectively destroying the species. A healthy species is able to survive without human interference and we are taking that ability away from our animals.” . By the way, friend and veterinarian Dr. Patricia Jordan has stated many times that no studies have been done on the effects to the genome, the DNA by vaccines. And yet, DNA can be changed easily by thoughts, words, and frequencies ( Scientists Prove DNA Can Be Reprogrammed by Words and Frequencies). Do you think there is anything but a negative frequency from vaccines? I don’t. My sweet former dogs Fridge, Shadrach and Meshach are all the proof I need. I refuse to participate in this mass slaughter under the guise of health care delivery. I prefer to share the truth and allow healing to take place in anyone who decides to hear, heed and apply it. . . . About the Author: . Dr. Kim Bloomer is a certified animal naturopath, Co-Founder of the American Council of Animal Naturopathy ( http://www.animalnaturopathy.org), host of the weekly internet radio show Animal Talk Naturally Radio and formerly worked in traditional veterinary medicine as a technician for many years. Her articles have appeared in various publications including Animal Wellness Magazine, Dogs Naturally, Pet Connection, and Natural Horse Magazine.

One of my lovely local clients, Gerri Nolan, has a lovely white German Shepherd girl she rescued a few years ago and has nursed back to health, who suffers with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency aswell as Anal Furunculosis. Gerri is a wonderful, caring owner, who is open to natural methods if that is what seems best, and so when she found out about us, having tried allopathic medicene for the AF and had no luck, she asked us and we were able to give her the protocol from holistic vet David Urch, which has helped, and more recently she has tweaked that with some new and very promising products we have just got in, and is seeing further improvements with them. Here is part 1 of Sheba's journey with Anal Furunculosis in Gerri's own words: "We first found out that Sheba had Anal Furunculosis when she was speyed in January of this year. She was first prescribed, by the Vet, with majorly expensive tablets Atopica, which over the course of the time that she was on them did not help but actually made her condition worse. The Vet also advised that we keep Sheba on one type of food, for example just chicken or fish. As Sheba also has EPI, I decided that the fish diet was the best option as Salmon is good for the colon, well the salmon oil is best, plus she has the fish varieties of Arden Grange. I did try her on all raw fish, but she didn't really take to it, so she has half and half, with berries, cous cous and eggs. As I was getting my minces and chunks from Julie, I spoke to her about Sheba's condition, Julie suggested that we look at the Aloe Vera approach, so out came the Aloe Vera - Nature's Gift book, written by Vet David Urch. In this book he states that this condition is more so found in German Shepherd's and cannot always be totally healed, but can be managed very well and improved with the use of Aloe Vera, as the two areas where it excels in healing is the gut, and the skin. He recommends the following treatment:- *Wash the area with Aloe Vera Soap or Aloe Vera Shampoo, and dry the area well [bear in mind that depending on how far this condition has got, the area can become sore and sensitive]. * Spray the area with Aloe Vera spray solution, pay particular attention to the discharging sinuses, it's these areas that the Aloe Vera Spray has to penetrate. * Apply generous amounts of Aloe Vera Gelly and alternate using Aloe Vera Propolis creme. I have found that using both, Gelly followed by the creme works well. * This application should be, where possible, be given 4 times a day. [If you're like me and work full time, it's pretty impossible, so I took 2 weeks off and gave her the intensive treatment over this time period]. * On top of this Sheba has Aloe Vera Gel drink, 30 mls, the Cranberry & Apple one, in her breakfast and evening meal, along with 1 crushed tablet of Bee Propolis, this attacks the condition from the inside. Sheba responded well to this, with the amount of pus, and the smell being greatly reduced 'very' quickly, but we do recognise this will be a long and slow road, as it has to heal from the inside out. She did get fed up on the pure fish diet, so knowing my dog, I put her back on the meat in the evening, which has worked well, and she has all the green veg that she needs for her EPI/immune system too. She's certainly a happier dog now. I've been following the above program for some months, and her condition is more stabilized, but was not improving, and on one of my weekly visits to Julie's, [coz I don't have a big freezer and Julie lives just down the road from me] she told me about this new stuff that she was getting in, T.L.C Transdermal Colloidal Silver and Neem products. After listening to what conditions this has been used on, I had to give it ago along with the Neem Capsules, and Julie also found out that a dog with this condition had been successfully treated with it, so we incorporated the Transdermal Silver and Neem/Turmeric capsules into her regime. I still use the Aloe Vera Gel in her food, along with the Gelly on occasions, and still use the Bee Propolis Creme, especially on the base of her tail, and the aloe vet spray but use the silver more to get right up inside. Her ears also often flare up also because of this condition, and then I find the Bee Prpolis creme a real godsend, and if it's really bad the Silver helps there too. It is early days yet but these changes have brought us added improvements already, further reducing the amount of pus, and eliminating the smell altogether now. She does get fed up with me washing her bottom every day, but it's for her benefit, whilst the weather has been nice, she's been having her bottom showered as well. If you're going down this route of treatment, whether it's the Aloe Vera or the Silver, remember that the bacteria is inside and so treatment with the Neem or the Bee Propolis is an important part of this treatment. We're really pleased with the progress thus far, and although it is a slow road, all progress so far, and signs lead us to be hopeful that one day she may be able to have as minimal discomfort from this as possible, if not totally heal. ********** I have a picture of Sheba which shows the severity of the AF when this treatment was first begun, and can send it to anyone who would like to see it, but we both felt it not appropriate to post it on here, so please just email me if you would like to see it:

The Best Dog Diet Book Ever By Caroline Griffith
This book was written by a canine nutritionist, [with foreword by Holistic Vet Nick Thompson] and thank goodness it was – this makes it totally different from other books about rawfeeding in that it actually explain ‘why’ things are the way they are, for example, the role of saliva in a canine mouth, the extra wide oesophagus, where the food goes to once it has been swallowed, and what happens to it – showing how the digestive system of a dog [carnivore] is different to a human being [omnivore]. There are diagrams and labels and information which not only inform,
but also are interesting, explaining and showing us in a very easy and logical way why a raw diet is best for our pets. This is a great book both for people new to feeding their dogs a raw diet and seasoned raw feeders alike, because it arms us with the basic, logical information we need to know why this way of feeding is best for our pets from a anatomical stance, which cannot be argued against, and gives us the answers we need to be able to help other owners to help their dogs. There is a recap section of the most important points, a useful
section on useful supplements and how they benefit the body, and general information helpful to all new to feeding raw or to those helping others who are new. There is a useful ‘common questions’ section, and lastly a section which contains some ‘real-life’ stories, including one from Bob Weatherwax, owner and trainer of all the ‘Lassie’ dogs! A handy ‘resources’ section finishes off the book, with some pages left for notes the reader may like to make as they read through.
This book was a breath of fresh air to read. After feeding my dogs this way for over 10yrs, I was rather afraid it would turn out to be too much the same as many others I have read, but Caroline has approached this subject not only from a very unique perspective, but also from a very logical and important one – giving the reader all the information they need to understand ‘why’ in a very easy-to-understand and therefore very interesting way. Caroline with her lovely Daisy If you would like a copy of this excellent book and are on Facebook, you can order it here: Well Done Caroline – Excellent book!

This is a wonderful new initiative which we at NHD fully support and strongly urge everyone who has any kind of pet, or loves animals to support. It is free to sign up as a supporter, and there are already over 1000 people from all parts of the world supporting it ranging from pet owners, to various pet professionals including vets. The Pet Welfare Alliance :
* Brings together an international community of people to act as a watchdog for the poorly legislated multi-billion pet products industry.
* Comprises pet owners and veterinarians from around the world who join together in strength to take practical, positive action to protect the wellbeing of pets.
* Expands awareness and understanding of the multi-billion international pet products industry, and the harm that is being done to pets.
* Raises awareness within the pet owning community to effect positive change on behalf of our pets. The Pet Welfare Alliance have prepared letters for us all to send to all the pet professionals we know of, to raise awareness of the existance of this fantastic organisation and many are flocking to join it as they recognise how badly this is needed to improve animal welfare and help normal pet owners in being able to make good choices for their own pets. With the help of the supporters, they are compiling a list of Vets who support important areas of choice for pet owners, so owners can search for recommended vets when they need to find a new vet - this is HUGELY important and needed both for vets and owners, and there is also an enormous amount of research collated on the PWA site to enable pet owners to know the facts for themselves. There are campaigns being launched in support of very important areas of focus for all pets, and they will act as an independent watchdog for pet owners as consumers to give them the information needed to enable them to make the best choices for their pets. It is long over-due that this organisation has come into being, too many pets have suffered and died through the deception of tainted petfood, over-use of dangerous vaccines, treatments and medications, poorly made toys and treats containing bad ingredients which have led to kidney failure and ill health - but now that this group of people have seen the need and stepped up to the plate to fulfill it for all our pets, let's give them all the support we can - because it is our own pet/s, and all those who have wrongly died prematurely, that they are doing it for. This is the chance we all need to join our voices together with the support of many qualified respected professionals also to make positive change happen and is an Amazing opportunity for us all! Visit the site and sign up as a supporter and see what You can do to help Today :

At the moment, in the U.K., stray animals are protected against being sent to Laboratories and spending the rest of their lives being experimented on. Unfortunately the Government plans to abolish this protection, which means that any pet who gets out by accident, or temporarily becomes lost on a walk, etc. 'could' be picked up by the local animal warden, or passed on to them via the police if handed in to them, and, sent straight to a Lab and added to their animals used for experiments, there for the rest of it's life, never even checked for a Micro-chip, owners left looking for their beloved pet not knowing it's where-abouts and so unable to get it back or stop it's pain and suffering. This is abhorrent and morally wrong - so please write to your MP, as I have done so below, and ask them to reject these new laws. If it helps please use my letter as a rough template, changing where necessary to suit, changing town name etc.: Dear [your MP], I believe the Government has plans to remove the protection afforded to stray animals which prevents them being used for experiments and I would like to ask you to oppose this and support the early day motion tabled by Adrian Sanders MP in support of the BUAV campaign. Any pet can accidentally get out anytime, from anyone as we are all human, and, having a dog yourself you will know the depth of feeling and attachment many good owners have towards their dogs, indeed, for many, the family pet truly is 'one of the family' and the idea that a pet who has accidentally got out could be picked up and end up in a lab being experimented on for the rest of it's life, whilst it's owners are still looking for it, hoping to still find it one day, is abhorrent, to me also, it is theft, as that animal, in law, still is the property of the owner, and just because you lose something it does not stop being yours ? I know we are very fortunate in Royston, and there are many places where there is still a problem with stray animals, but the proposed 'answer' of stealing someone's pet [and you can't always tell the difference between a real stray and a pet who's been lost for a while in harsh weather conditions] is morally wrong. Please support the following on behalf of those of us who do care for our animals and those animals: thankyou Yours sincerely, David & Julie Arnold ------------------------- I am happy for everyone who wants to use my letter as a template if it makes it easier for you to contact your MP, and you can find your MP and contact them via here:

The Pet Parents’ Action Group: * Brings together an international community of people to act as a watchdog for the poorly legislated multi-billion pet products industry.
This is an international organisation which owners, vets and other animal professionals are flocking to join, as it gives a voice where none has been before and is vital moving forward to the welfare of all our pets. The Pet Parents’ Action Group undertake to write to every veterinary practice in the UK to: · Update vets on World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) guidelines on vaccine frequency ( http://tinyurl.com/chgchby)
· Update vets on the duration of immunity studies (the fact that vaccines against the core dog and cat diseases have been shown to protect for up to the lifetime of the animal).
· Update vets on the science of vaccine adverse effects.
*If we have support from outside the UK we are also prepared to extend the campaign so that the voices of animal lovers are heard loud and clear around the world.
*We are prepared to do the work so that every pet owner can visit their vet, free from pressure to vaccinate more often than is scientifically necessary – on a worldwide basis.
*We will work as a cohesive whole to achieve our aims. We need dog and cat lovers to get behind this initiative and make it practically possible.
*Once the mailing to veterinarians has been successfully accomplished, we will extend the initiative and write to boarding kennels, animal charities, and other dog-related organisations, so that no-one can be unaware of the current science. We believe that if vets truly knew the damage caused by over-vaccination, they wouldn’t do it.
What You Can Do Now Pet owners, and their pets, are the pawns in a massive chess game. Some vets demand that you vaccinate your dogs and cats every year. Others have adopted the three-year vaccination policy. A few understand that once dogs and cats are immune to the core viral diseases, they have lifelong immunity. Some vets say that leptospirosis and kennel cough vaccines are needed every year – despite the fact that the World Small Animal Veterinary Association says they are optional. Leptospirosis is arguably a rare disease, but the prevailing policy seems to be to vaccinate ‘just in case’. However, the leptospirosis vaccine is the one most associated with severe adverse reactions.
The Pet Parents’ Action Group is therefore establishing a record of veterinary practice vaccination policy – with your help. Take part in our on-line survey :
You can tell us whether your vet has adopted an annual, tri-annual or once in a lifetime vaccination policy, and whether they offer titer tests in place of vaccination.
Your information will form part of a resource for pet parents, who can choose the vet they visit on the basis of vaccination policy – avoiding the annual battle to protect their pets from unnecessary and potentially harmful yearly shots.
What We Are Doing in Return The Pet Parents’ Action Group will be sending Awards to every veterinary practice that adopts the minimum vaccination protocol. We will reward and praise the veterinary practices which keep abreast with current science.
The information you provide will then enable us to campaign further to effect change in veterinary vaccine policy. Join us on the Supporters list and help us make a difference:
